My story
My baking journey began in 2010 with a dessert bar I created for my in-laws’ 40th anniversary celebration. From that moment on, I became the go-to dessert person in my circle—if there was a potluck, everyone asked, “Can you bring dessert?”
What started as a love for baking small, sweet treats soon evolved into crafting custom, one-of-a-kind cakes. It all shifted when a friend asked me to create a special cake for her baby shower—and I fell in love with the creative process. In 2019, I officially launched Custom Cakes by Tara, complete with all the proper licenses to run my business from my home kitchen.
I’m a proud mom of two energetic boys who keep me on my toes and bring so much joy to my life. I’ve called Sacramento home since 2005, shortly after earning my BA in Psychology from Sonoma State University. Whenever we get the chance, our family loves sneaking away to Disneyland or tackling a fun escape room together.

What’s the point of a stunning cake if it doesn’t taste just as amazing? I’ve spent years developing and refining my recipes to ensure that every cake is as delicious as it is beautiful. For me, flavor is everything. It genuinely saddens me when people expect wedding cakes to be dry and forgettable—I’m here to change that perception.
Every cake that leaves my kitchen is made with care, creativity, and a deep commitment to quality. Moist, fresh, and flavorful—each one is a reflection of the heart and soul I pour into my work. My goal is always to strike the perfect balance between incredible taste and flawless design.
I also understand how overwhelming wedding planning can be, which is why I aim to make the cake process as smooth and stress-free as possible. From coordinating with your florist and planner to confirming details with your venue, I’m here to help everything come together seamlessly.
